The most important practical difference for inspection work is the zoom camera. The Matrice 30T has a 12MP zoom; the Matrice 4T has a 48MP zoom — four times the resolution. When you're reading serial numbers on equipment, inspecting weld seams, or identifying structural defects from altitude, that difference is not subtle. The 4T also gets the newer FLIR Boson+ thermal sensor, which detects smaller temperature differences — useful for early hot spot detection on solar panels or finding heat signatures in search and rescue.
The Matrice 4T's laser rangefinder reaches 1,800m; the 30T's reaches 1,200m. For utility inspection, infrastructure work, or public safety operations where you're identifying targets at distance, 600 extra meters of usable range is genuinely meaningful.
IP55 vs IP54 is a relatively small difference on paper — both protect against dust and water jets. The M30T's IP55 rating offers slightly more protection against sustained water exposure. For most inspection and public safety missions, IP54 is adequate. If your team regularly operates in driving rain, on boats, or near water surfaces, the M30T's extra protection is worth noting.
49 minutes vs 41 minutes is a meaningful edge in the field. Eight extra minutes per battery cycle adds up across a full day of operations, and it reduces how often you're swapping batteries during time-sensitive missions.
The Matrice 4T weighs 1,570g — less than half the Matrice 30T's 3,770g. For one-person teams or rapid deployment scenarios, that difference affects how quickly you can move between locations. The M30T's weight does give it an advantage in stability in high winds with payloads, but both drones share Level 6 wind resistance ratings.
