Potensic ATOM SE foldable GPS drone

Potensic ATOM SE Review: Is It Still Worth Buying in 2026?

By DJI Gear Portal — Affiliate Blog

The Potensic ATOM SE is the cheapest drone in Potensic's ATOM family and the one that started the line. It arrived in 2023, so it's now older than both the ATOM 2 and the ATOM 3. That raises a fair question: is a drone this old still worth buying? Here's what it offers, what it gives up, and who it still suits.

What You Get

According to retailer specifications, the ATOM SE shoots 4K video at 30 frames per second with electronic image stabilization. Listings quote roughly 29 to 31 minutes of flight per battery, and Fly More Combos include a second 2,500mAh battery, which roughly doubles your flying time. Transmission range is listed at up to 4 km, and GPS features include Follow Me, Waypoint flight and Circle flight, plus automatic return-to-home if the signal drops or the battery runs low. A deal listing puts its weight at 245g, which keeps it under the 249g threshold that lightens registration in many countries.

When it first appeared, Digital Camera World noted its 4K video beat the 2.7K limit on DJI's cheaper entry drone at the time, the Mini 2 SE.

What It Gives Up

No three-axis gimbal. This is the biggest difference. The ATOM SE relies on electronic stabilization, which crops and processes the image to smooth it. Digital Camera World called the SE's digital stabilization better than comparable systems but limited, and noted that the next model in the line, the ATOM, added the three-axis gimbal the SE lacked. If smooth video is your priority, that matters.

Shorter range and older tech. Digital Camera World reports the ATOM raised range from the SE's 4 km to 6 km, and Potensic's claims for the ATOM 2 and ATOM 3 go further still. The newer models also offer more shooting modes and better cameras.

Limited sensing. The retailer specs list a downward-facing vision sensor and a time-of-flight sensor, which help with stable low flying and indoor use. They don't list obstacle avoidance, so assume you're responsible for avoiding trees and walls.

Price

The SE has been on the market for a while, and price varies a lot. One deal listing showed it at roughly $137 with free shipping, though sale prices like that come and go, and bundles with extra batteries cost more. Check current pricing before you buy.

Who Should Buy It

Buy the ATOM SE if you want the lowest-cost way to learn to fly a GPS drone with 4K video, you're buying for a child or a first-time pilot who might crash it, or you want a cheap second drone for casual flights.

Skip it if you care about smooth footage or you plan to create content seriously. For a modest step up in price, the ATOM 2 adds a real gimbal, and the ATOM 3 improves the camera again.

Bottom Line

The ATOM SE is dated, but at a sale price it's still one of the cheapest ways to get a GPS drone that shoots 4K. Treat it as a learning drone rather than a filmmaking tool, and spend a little more if smooth video is why you're buying.
